The Italian Vittoriale is a complex of buildings, theatres, gardens, museums and squares originally erected for the poet to hide from the world. Nowadays, Il Vittoriale hosts among other amazing treasures a theatre hall, a museum, an archive, a library, a bookshop and a bar. At The War Museum (Museo della Guerra) many of d’Annunzio’s First World War antics are recorded, like his most victorious feat, the capture of an enemy battleship. In the summertime ballets, concerts, operas or plays can be enjoyed in the open-air theatre at the Vittoriale spectacular gardens. Even though visits to d’Annunzio’s estate are exclusively held by guided tour and in Italian, the visit to the Vittoriale degli Italiani is strongly recommended for tourists staying at the Lake Garda hotels.
